So you’re already into the New Year full of ambitions for 2015!
I bet you have had a great summer break and have worked out a stack of goals you want to achieve this year . . . a great feeling!
Let me ask you, now that you are back at work is your ‘day to day’ routine inhibiting you in achieving your goals?
Making the most out of your year is about stepping out of your comfort zone, so ask yourself;
• Do you have difficulty getting out of your comfort zone?
• Do you get out briefly only to find yourself comfortably back inside a few weeks later?
Most people get out of their comfort zone by taking a running leap. For example, joining a gym and going from no training to 5 days a week. Another example is taking on a study program that suddenly chews up all their family and social time. Before too long their enthusiasm starts to wane.
Instead of leaping out of your comfort zone, why not try;
Stretching is expanding your comfort zone gradually, which is more likely to make the change sustainable into the future, making a new habit and therefore achieving your desired goal.
Take the gym example. . . Just go once the first week and take it fairly easy, then go twice the following week. Next week go the amount of times you intend to go regularly. Then by week four start working on the intensity of the workout and apply the same gradual increases.
By stretching yourself you are creating good habits and before you know it you will have reached your goal. This goal stretching technique can be used in your personal life and business life.
Sales calls is another great example. . . Your goal is 20 sales calls a week. Don’t just go completely into selling your products and services to a huge list of prospects, especially if you are not confident making sales calls. They take practice so again, stretch your goal.
Start with 3 calls to warm prospects. The next week call 5 cold prospects, the following week 10 calls, increasing until you reach your target. If you get knocked back or falter dust yourself off, understand your prospect is really saying ‘not now’ and pick the phone up again. Before you know it you will be an expert sales caller in your field.
