This time of year seems to see everyone embrace change . . . you know new year, fresh start which is great! The motivation is palpable and I don’t enjoy being a dampener on peoples enthusiasm. It’s just a case of having a lot of experience observing people rushing head long into a change project, that always has me concerned at this time of year.

Like the high failure rate of New Year Resolutions (80% fail) a change in business has a 70% failure rate! The difficulty is when they fail the time, money, resources and efforts that go into that project are never recovered.
You see most people adopt a “trial and error” approach to change. They start out with great intentions and they are full of enthusiasm. Their confidence wains as they encounter setbacks. They then remember the last change project and it failed.
